I can see an employers point of view believe me but my last two jobs were not my usual role and I was out of my depth. This job I can do with ease. I understand they wont know that. The question is "Would I take a chance on me?"
Barrier to employment (1)
Most recent work history has been abysmal
Reasons
I was not taking my medication regularly
I attempted work I was not confident with
I had an ill mindset and did not feel confident in my own abilities
I did not stay long enough to gain a good reference
I did not build good effective working relationships
Goals for future
To take my medication regularly - achieved
To do volunteer or paid work that I am confident with - accounts, admin, training co-ordination, data entry
To have a mindset that the effects of the illness can be worked with, put to good advantage and even overcome - achieved
To obtain a role in which I am confident in my abilities and skills
To stay in that role long enough to obtain good references for future paid employment
To build good effective working relationships in that role
Okay appointment made with a volunteer organisation to discuss volunteer work placement in admin/finance!
Barriers to employment (2)
Stigma surrounding mental illness in the workplace
Reasons
Ignorance and jumping to conclusions about how mental illness can effect individuals
Tarring everyone with the same brush and not treating people as individuals
Basing evaluation of the person on a past that is no longer relevant to the current capabilities of the person
Goals for the future
Be clear on how my condition affects me
Practice and be clear on how I personally deal with issues that arise for me
Evaluate the pro's and cons to an employer of employing me even with schizophrenia
I'm gonna prove the statistics wrong for me!
